Howdy - - Fri. Sept. 24 at Connecticut Yankee

Howdy! A foot stompin' Americana band will be playing this Friday September 24, 2010 at the Connecticut Yankee, 100 Connecticut St. SF, CA 94107.
Howdy! is:
Sean Hancock: (Mandolin/Vox)
David Nanstad: (Guitar,Harmonica,Vox)
Brian Vandemark: (Upright Bass/Vox)
Ben Jacobs (Accordion/Keyboards)
Moss (Drums)

Howdy!s version of gothic-backwoods-mountain music continues to gain attention from the Bay Area Americana community with each show out shining the last. Recent shows at the CafĂ© DuNord and Connecticut Yankee left the audience spellbound, sweaty and yelling for more. While self described as Americana, Howdy!s music is actually a little more difficult to categorize – the music can run the gamut from traditional bluegrass inspired to Grateful Dead inspired jams…soaked in moonshine…with a little rooster claw thrown in to keep it real. Saying you can dance to it (most do) is an understatement. All this and wailing voodoo vocals and harmonica. In Howdy! songs lycanthropic lovers are decried; victims of civil war fratricide exact revenge and mythical figures weave battles for your dreams. Revelers at Howdy! shows have been heard to exclaim “..they cast out devils and speak with new tongues!”. . T

The band is Dave singing and playing acoustic guitar and harmonica, Sean playing mandolin and singing, Brian playing upright bass and some singing and, lately, phenomenal keyboard player Ben Jacobs has been performing with us on accordion. We realized we all liked the darker, stranger side of roots music, so we thought we’d steal a few pages from that book and fill in the rest ourselves. We hope you like it ‘cause we like doing it…we released our first album called Stranger in 2006.
