These three books are must reads for non-fiction murder mystery types. Richard Levine's only book, written in 1981 focuses on the grisly BBQ China Camp murders that took place in 1975. Dan Schultz hits a home run with Dead Run, and Deanne Stillman does it again with Twenty Nine Palms. I've never been to the Mojave desert, but Stillman's descriptions of the mojave desert and it's culture of down and out tweakers, Marines, the working poor, etc. makes me feel like I've been there before. All three are highly recommended.
