Killer whales, aka orcas, have been returning to the Bay Area for the last five years or so, probably coming down from Puget Sound and following the gray whale migration. The other day a juvenile orca was found dead, washed up on Driftwood Beach, near Tomales Point. The male orca was 18 ft. long and showed possible signs of trauma, such as being struck by a a ship or by another mammal. Read Mark Prado's article in the Marin IJ here.
