Tombstones Appear on Ocean Beach
One of the more trippy things to appear on Ocean Beach recently are full tombstones dating back to the late 1800's. San Francisco used to have quite a few cemetaries, but most were relocated to Colma (just south). However, many graves, caskets and tombstones were either thrown into the sea, buried over with sand and soil or abandoned altogether. The tombstones that are showing up, were mostly crushed down to smaller bits to be used for erosion control, and
have periodically revealed themselves over the years...when the winds are hella strong. This is one of those years. The granite looks like it could easily last another 100 years or so.
